The Tomintoul 14 Years Old Cognac Cask Finish, distilled in 2009, began its maturation journey in ex-bourbon American oak casks before receiving a special finish in carefully selected Cognac casks personally sourced by Master Distiller Robert Fleming from France. These Cognac casks have seamlessly enhanced the Tomintoul Single Malt with rich fruit flavours, elevating the whisky's character and complexity. Distilled in 2013, this single vintage expression has undergone a decade of maturation. The ageing process involves a carefully chosen combination of casks: 80% of the whisky is matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, while the remaining 20% ages in second-fill Pauillac wine casks. This maturation strategy enhances the whisky's complexity and depth, offering a harmonious blend of the bourbon barrel's vanilla and oak notes with the rich, fruity nuances imparted by the Pauillac wine casks.

Tasting Note by Westland:Nose: Smouldering moss, flamed orange peel, and a background of nuttiness are the first notes in the nose.Palate: Peat erupts from the palate, expressing flavours of roasted pistachios, iodine, and campfire. The smouldering moss on the nose gradually transforms into burning embers and roasted plantains. As time passes, the palate also changes, moving towards more pronounced earth notes, green herbs, and increasing iodine towards the finish.
