DoubleWood 12 was launched in 1993, built on a wood finishing technique pioneered by David C. Stewart in 1982 that has since become widely adopted across the industry. The whisky first matures in traditional whisky oak casks, which impart warming vanilla and gentle spice, before being transferred to European oak Sherry casks for a further period of maturation that adds fruity, honeyed depth and greater complexity. The whiskies are then married for three to four months in large oak tuns to allow full integration before bottling. This 14 year old whisky, first aged in Bourbon casks since May 26, 2009, was transferred to Ruby Port Hogsheads on November 17, 2020, for its final 3-year maturation. This unpeated Islay whisky features an ABV of 58.7%, is non-chill filtered, and has no added colour, highlighting its natural quality and craftsmanship.
