The SC: 01 2012 vintage was exclusively conceived, cultivated, distilled, aged, and bottled on Islay. The barley used for this vintage was harvested in 2011 and supplied by seven local farmers, all situated within a 10-mile radius of the distillery. The barley is malted to a peat level of 40ppm by maltsters on the Scottish mainland. Afterward, it's brought back to Islay for distillation. Highland Park doesn't always take the easy route when it comes to making whisky. For Triskelion, they decided to involve not just one, but three legendary Highland Park Whisky Makers – Gordon Motion, Max McFarlane, and John Ramsay. Together, they embarked on a journey to delve into the intricate influence of wood and cask seasoning on their whisky.
These three Master Whisky Makers meticulously hand-selected and blended three primary cask types: first-fill sherry seasoned Spanish oak butts, first-fill sherry seasoned American oak casks, and ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads. To achieve a balanced and harmonious flavor profile, a small number of refill casks were also added to the mix, contributing a touch of softness to the final single malt whisky.
