Crafted with a combination of unpeated and peated spirit, this whisky undergoes a triple maturation process, spending at least twelve years in a variety of cask types, including bourbon barrels, sherry casks, and Marsala wine casks.

With a natural cask-imparted color and an ABV of 46%, Benriach The Smoky Twelve promises a delightful and harmonious tasting experience that combines the best elements of fruitiness and smokiness in a well-rounded whisky.

Nose: Smoked vanilla, charred orange and toasted almond.
Palate: Dark chocolate, fruit peel, brown sugar and smoked oak, lingering into a cocoa and orange smoked finish.

Nose: Sooty peat smoke. Caramel and vanilla. Pineapple and grapefruit. Caramelised red stone fruits and ginger spice. Liquorice and toffee. Raspberry jam and strawberry sherbet.

Texture: Oily mouthfeel with prickly heat at the back of the tongue with and a bit dry.

Palate: Sweet caramel, vanilla and honey. Custard and shortbread with some burnt malt notes and orange rind. Some bitter sooty peat smoke.
There are some vegetal notes here like sweet parsnip or turnip and a hint of white pepper spice.

Finish: Short to medium finish. Mild pepper spice, creamy custard with digestive notes. Hints of spent/damp cigarette smoke.

Overall: A great nose with a very interesting palate. A bottle I’d happily replace. 6/10

Absolutely delicious.

This is my first exposure to Renriach. Wow!
What an exceptionally well balanced whisky.
Allowed to breath for 10 minutes or so this really opens to reveal a multiply layered complex and extremely enjoyable dram. Perhaps a little too enjoyable 😉

Generaly not bad whisky but not great. Lovely nose promising more that you get on the taste. Sweet fruity with gentle smoke in the backgtound. Not for Islay lovers but for someone who starts his journey with peat/smoke. Bit too oaky finish but at this price solid whisky.
