Description

On 19 September 1995, new spirit was filled into a single Oloroso sherry cask at Craigellachie in Speyside. That was almost two decades before the distillery launched its single malt range in 2014. For thirty years the cask sat undisturbed in oak, monitored over time by Malt Master Stephanie Macleod, until she judged it ready. Built as the rock in the heart of Speyside in 1891, Craigellachie has always done things the old-fashioned way: worm tub condensers, oil-fired kilning, no chill filtration and no added colour. That uncompromising approach is the foundation of every bottle in the Exceptional Cask Series.

Cask #4573 was bottled straight from the cask at 56.9% ABV with no water added. It filled 426 bottles. There will never be more. Every one of them is at JPHA. For collectors and those who appreciate whisky of genuine provenance, this is as singular as it gets.

One bottle is not enough!

I bought one bottle initially and it looked great in my collection, then I started hearing more reviews from people who had drank it and from then on knew this was going to be a special one. With this being an official release and only 426 bottles in the whole world, I decided to buy another 3 to keep, no doubt the value of this will go up in time!

JPHA you have done it again what an exceptional single cask. One of the best I have tried all year. Stunning flavour profile everything you would expect from a quality sherry cask, and a decent ABV for the age. If only I had the money to buy 10. Best of the best Craigellachie's availabe!!

When I heard about this limited edition with only 426 bottles from this cask and hearing what people had to say about this 30 year old, and with the ABV of 56.9 I felt it was one I wanted for my collection!

Absolutely love it, I’m one for boxes and cases, the aesthetics matter to me, the tube it comes in is great the lid fits nice and tight,

I have bottle number 28 out of the 426, I find this so special knowing I have 1 of only 426.

Great liquid! Amazing through and through

This Craigellachie 30 is something special. It’s still at a great ABV despite the age, and the sherry comes through in all manners - from a beautiful nose to the well rounded body and long finish. Coupled with the price, this bottle is 100% worth buying!

Absolutely outstanding dram

This is a whisky to take your time over. The nose starts with warm apple crumble, caramelised sugar and a little orange marmalade. After a few minutes, I get more walnut, polished wood and a slightly savoury edge that makes it much more interesting than just sweetness and sherry.

The palate has a lovely weight to it. There’s dark fruit, toffee and a touch of bitter chocolate, followed by roasted nuts and warming spice. What I particularly like is the balance: plenty of richness, but enough dryness and orange zest to keep it from becoming cloying.

The finish stays with you, moving towards walnut skin, dark chocolate and a gentle peppery warmth, with the fruit still coming through underneath.

An excellent dram with plenty to explore. One of those whiskies where you put the glass down, then find yourself picking it back up for another nose.
