    Description

The GlenAllachie Wine Cask Series, crafted by Master Blender Billy Walker, features a unique expression called The Cuvée Wine Cask Finish. This 2023 release blends whisky matured in American oak ex-Bourbon barrels and European wine barriques from French and Italian regions. The result is an opulent, smooth malt with layers of robust red fruits, gentle spice, and citrus hints, bottled unchillfiltered at 48% ABV with no added colouring.

    Tasting Note by GlenAllachie:
Nose: Bursting with orange blossom, espresso, maraschino cherries and honeysuckle, with hints of candied stone fruits, hazelnuts, lavender and cinnamon.
Palate: Waves of dark chocolate, red currants and burnt coffee beans, followed by crystalised almonds, blackberries and orange zest, with ginger and liquorice on the finish.

Have tried a range of whiskies that have red or white wine or port finishes and its often difficult to discern much of a finish. This Glenallachie cuvée (name is a bit pretentious) is the exception. Had a glorious claret aroma on opening and several weeks later it is still there. There is a definite red wine flavour on the palate but it is so well balance it doesn't detract from the whisky or the whisky from it. Biggest problem with this is that it is so easily drinkable undiluted and i have been conscious to force myself to drink other whiskies so that i will not run out too quickly. I need to stock up on this -only question is how many bottles?

Long meeting with the wine casks
Of anything I've tried with a wine finish this has had the best meeting with red stuff. On first opening the wine aroma dominates. It is dangerously drinkable. Quite similar in flavour to Spey Tenné which is a port finish. Cask strength version would be very interesting but 48% is more than OK. Haven't been tempted to add water yet
