The Kilkerran 12-year-old single malt originates from the Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown, which saw its revival in 2004. This expression, the Kilkerran 12 Year Old, boasts a mild peatiness and retains its natural oils due to the absence of chill filtration. It has been meticulously aged in a traditional blend of casks, with 70% coming from bourbon casks and the remaining 30% from sherry casks, resulting in a well-balanced and flavorful whisky.
Tasting Note by Kilkerran:
Nose: The predominant flavour is oak, which is followed by toasted marshmallows, dried fruit pudding, cherries, marzipan, and a faint tinge of peat.
Palate: Orange peel and fruity notes are present at first, followed by flavours like vanilla, butterscotch, honeycomb, and digestive biscuits.
Finish: There is an oiliness and a saltiness that you would anticipate from a Campbeltown dram despite being velvety and smooth with lemon meringue.
