Description

The Original Cask Strength is Laphroaig in its purest form, delivering the full power of Islay’s land, sea and air. Matured for 10 years in charred American oak barrels, this expression is drawn directly from the cask, barrier-filtered only to remove char particles. It is unchill-filtered and bottled at natural strength, showcasing the distillery’s uncompromising character.

Batch 16 stands as the most powerful release in the Cask Strength family. Bottled at 58.5% ABV, it balances peat smoke and maritime salinity with layers of sweet orchard fruit, vanilla, spice, and the oily richness that defines Laphroaig.

Tasting Notes by Laphroaig:
Nose: Sweet apples and caramelised pastry, with cereal, tanned leather and vanilla, lifted by Islay peat smoke.
Palate: Vanilla and sea salt intermingled with freshly ground black pepper, pork crackling and savoury peat.
Finish: Gentle spice, charred oak and smoked mackerel carried on an oily mouthfeel.

Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength (Batch 16)

A simple dram, but well made. Exactlly what I expect from a Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength.

Nose :
Typical Laphroaig, earth, medical smoke, maritime and salty, some dried apricot, Quite sweet with lemon, grapefruit and orange. Also herbs like mint and vanilla, yellow jam and fruit pie, brine, slight gauze and iodine, the peatiness comes soft. A fresh, young and pleasant whisky !

Taste :
Very oily, almost thick texture.
Combined with the initial taste and spice, sweet, fruity sourness, very juicy fruit, smoked meat, ink peat, a bit of rubber

Finish :
Finish

The finish is an evening meal, smoked meat, sweet, pepper, some rubber, very weak hints of fruit tea, finish medium long to long lasting.

Lovely dram. Peaty, yes, but not overpowered. At 58.5% it didn't feel as strong as it clearly was. Very drinkable. When this bottle has gone I'll get another. Definitely recommend this Whisky.

Second bottle

I previously purchased a No. 16 and it was so good I was half way through the bottle within a few weeks of opening it so decided it was best to purchase another. It's an absolute beauty of dram, full on in your face flavours and so bold. Don't hesitate to buy a bottle.

A full on maritime taste, less balanced than the batch 15 but more powerful.

Laphroaig 10 CS Batch 16

Loved this batch. Big peat smoke right from the start, with salty, medicinal notes and a nice touch of vanilla and citrus underneath. The cask strength gives it loads of flavour without feeling harsh, and a few drops of water really make it shine. Proper Islay whisky—bold, complex, and one I'd happily pour again.

Smoky with a cheeky twist

If Batch 17 is a seasoned prop, Batch 16 is your young, fearless flanker — all energy and determination with a bit more finesse. Still big and smoky, still salty like a hard day at the beach, but with a cheeky twist of sweetness that sneaks up on you like a break up the wing.

It doesn’t back down, but it’s got nimble footwork under all that peat. A whisky that’ll punch above its weight and still be up for a laugh after the final whistle.

Pure pleasure in a glass!

For my money, a really good whisky at an exceptional price. Superb value for those moments of tasting pleasure.

Great dram

Laphroaig 10YO Cask Strength has never let me down. This batch 16 is even better than batch 15 in my preference. Compare between the 2 batches, batch 16 is more oaky and with more depth while it is less floral. Every batch of 10YO CS has been lovely.
It is the first time I bought from JPHA. The delivery is on time. The package is handled with care while the bottles were wrapped very carefully. Good experience to shop with JPHA.
