    Description

Distilled on the storm-swept southern shore of Islay, Laphroaig has been producing some of the world's most recognisable and uncompromising single malts since 1815. The distillery's defining character comes from its own floor maltings, where barley is dried over a peat fire cut from the mossy bogs directly behind the buildings, and from the cold Atlantic air that shapes every cask as it matures in the warehouses facing the sea. That combination of place, process and patience is what makes Laphroaig one of the most distinctive addresses in Scotch whisky.

Batch 17 of the Cask Strength expression is bottled without chill-filtration or water reduction, preserving the full natural character of the spirit exactly as it leaves the barrel. At 58.3% ABV, this is Laphroaig at its most direct and unadulterated, a release that rewards those who want to explore the distillery's signature interplay of sweet fruit, coastal salinity and deep Islay peat. A serious addition to any collection, and a compelling choice for the whisky enthusiast who already knows what they love.

    Tasting Note by Laphroaig:
Nose: Sweet, vibrant and smoky, with notes of candied apple slices, crème brûlée, sugared pastries and warming peat smoke.
Palate: Initially sweet and fruity, with stewed apple, vanilla cream and pears in syrup, followed by a wave of sea salt, earthy peat and crisp seaweed.
Finish: Very long, with black pepper spice, antique leather and a sweet grassy smoke that fades into a tarry peat aroma.

The standard 10 year-old is great but this is even better due to it not being watered down. Much more depth of flavour and complexity. A+

    Classic Laphroaig

Once you get used to the medicinal , tar like nose, a vanilla , honey flavour bursts through with hints of citrus. A great introduction to peated whisky

    Love the different Batch Characteristics

This is, as usual, a bit different from previous batches, as you might expect.
It's full flavoured, slightly drier and imo woodier than the batch 16 or 15.
It's smoky and full flavoured, smooth, intense and warming, with a good viscosity and a very long, well-balanced finish.
Easy to sip, no harsh burn, but add a touch of water to open up the flavours if you like. Personally, I prefer to take tiny sips and savour the tide of flavours as they roll around my palate and tongue, and linger nicely, fading slowly. Full on Islay nectar at its best!

    Lovely peat bomb

    Lovely peat bomb.
I've been fortunate to try the batch 14, 15, 16 and 17 over the years.
Batch 17 stands out as my clear favourite.
It's very peaty alright, but without the heavy leathery quality of batch 15 and 16. It's clearer, drier, and makes for a more refined experience in my opinion.
Always add some water or an ice cube to it. It needs to be diluted to fully open up.
Incredible whisky, and on offer it's the best price/quality ratio around.

Always a pleasure to sample a Laphraoig especially when it is cask strength

    Big and Smoky

This whisky is like a front-row prop who’s been playing in the rain since 1998. Big, smoky, slightly intimidating, and absolutely no interest in being polite.

Hits you with peat and salt straight away, then keeps pushing until you know who’s in charge. A bit rough round the edges, but deep down there’s skill, balance, and a surprising bit of sweetness.

Not here to be fancy. Here to win the match
