These diminutive barrels enhance the whisky's flavor by increasing contact with the wood, augmenting the characteristics of spirits initially matured in ex-Bourbon barrels. The result is a delightful interplay of coconut, banana, and vanilla notes complementing Laphroaig's signature heavy peat flavor. The whisky culminates in a lengthy, sweet, and smoky finish. To preserve the character developed in these small but impactful barrels, this quarter cask whisky undergoes barrier filtration.
