Macallan 15 Year Old Double Cask

Situated on a 485-acre estate on the banks of the River Spey in Craigellachie, The Macallan has built its reputation over nearly two centuries on an unwavering philosophy of exceptional oak cask maturation. Every cask used across the Double Cask Collection is prepared at The Macallan's own cooperages and bodegas in Jerez de la Frontera, where the oak is seasoned with sherry wine before being transported to Speyside. It is this meticulous chain of custody, from Spanish bodega to Scottish warehouse, that ensures the consistency and quality of flavour and natural colour that defines the collection.

The Double Cask 15 Year Old brings together sherry seasoned American oak and sherry seasoned European oak, matured for a minimum of fifteen years on The Macallan Estate. The American oak contributes its characteristic vanilla sweetness and lighter fruit notes, whilst the European oak adds the richer dried fruit complexity and soft spice more familiar from the classic Sherry Oak style. As Master Whisky Maker Kirsteen Campbell notes, the collection increases in complexity with age, and at fifteen years the Double Cask delivers a noticeably deeper and more layered character than its twelve year old counterpart. Bottled at entirely natural colour without the addition of caramel, it presents beautifully and makes a highly regarded gift for any occasion.

Tasting Note by Macallan:
Nose: Dried fruit, toffee and vanilla with smooth oak and baked apple. Balanced with notes of honey and chocolate.
Palate: Sweet raisin and sultana builds with hints of vanilla, wood spice and citrus.
Finish: Warm with ginger turning to caramel and citrus, with a lingering and creamy mouth feel.
