Description

Octomore 15.1 is a bold, heavily peated single malt made from 100% Scottish barley. Aged in a combination of bourbon and re-charred ex-bourbon casks, it offers a compelling blend of creamy vanilla, sweet charred oak, and intense peat smoke—a true showcase of Octomore’s signature strength and elegance.

Tasting Note by Bruichladdich:
Nose: Caramel and vibrant citrus open on the nose, delicately wrapped in Octomore’s dry, earthy peat smoke. Spicy aniseed, vanilla and smooth custard follow, with a tropical fruit, geranium and a hint of ginger complementing the sweet malt.
Palate: Immediate heat on the palate is balanced with sweet dry malt and earthy smoke. A refreshing medley of mango, banana and apricot jam cuts through the heady peat, beautifully rounded with vanilla custard and toffee. A drop of water allows the smoke to open and brings subtle marine notes and warm sand.
Finish: Peat smoke, vanilla and sweet charred oak settle on the finish, with a fresh marine crispness.

Octomore 15.1: Superb from Box to Bonfire

Octomore 15.1 – Review

Order placed… and bang - it was on my doorstep before I’d even finished telling myself I didn’t need another Octomore. Delivery speed was ridiculous in the best possible way. Boxing, tin, bottle - all immaculate, like it had been hand‑carried down from Islay by someone who knew I’d check every corner.

On the palate, it’s classic 15.1 territory: big smoke, sweet barley, that clean Bruichladdich backbone. But the real moment? You climb the peat mountain expecting the usual blast furnace… only to find marshmallows roasting in a bonfire at the summit. Then it slides softly down the throat before you’re hauled back up the mountain for another ascent. Predictable in the ways you want Octomore to be, surprising in the ways that keep you coming back.

Phenomenal whiskey

Phenomenal whiskey, indeed intense peaty taste but so smooth, aromatic and great aftertaste of vanilla. Was not expecting to like it so much, but as lover of peaty whiskeys, it has now become my favourite.

The Octomore 15.1 5yo was presented to our local whisky group ‘Brigstock Free Spirits - BFS’ at our monthly meeting in February ’26.. We found if surprisingly quaffable for a cask-strength whisky, despite the high PPM,

Brilliant whisky

Brilliant whisky, great price, quick delivery and easy ordering - what more can you ask for?

Too “nice”

I find myself disappointed with this whisky. For a 5 year old it is a very smooth drinker, for 59% alcohol it is a very smooth drinker, and for 108ppm peat it isn’t crazy peaty but has a pleasant background smokiness. Maybe the high alcohol and high peat are balancing each other and technically it is an achievement. But I don’t find much else to savour, and the finish for me is pretty short, so frankly it doesn’t justify its premium price. I’d rather have a nice ashy sip of Laphroaig Lore with its lingering grapey finish.
