Description

Founded in 1897 on the banks of the River Spey and revived in 2012 by Ian Macleod Distillers, Tamdhu is built on a single founding principle: the exclusive maturation of every expression in Oloroso sherry oak casks sourced directly from the cooperages and bodegas of Jerez in Spain's sherry triangle. The 12 Year Old is the clearest expression of that commitment, matured in a combination of first-fill and refill American and European oak Oloroso sherry casks to produce a rich, silky and naturally coloured Speyside single malt.

Consistent international recognition has followed, with Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition across 2020, 2022 and 2025, Double Gold in 2021, and Gold at the International Spirits Challenge in both 2020 and 2021. Designed by the celebrated distillery architect Charles C. Doig and restored to its original vision over a century later, Tamdhu represents one of Speyside's most focused and decorated approaches to sherry cask maturation.

Tasting Note by Tamdhu:
Nose: Rich and enticing, iced cinnamon rolls, orange boiled sweets, fresh sweet oak with raisins and the faint hint of mint.
Palate: Silky texture that coats the mouth with banana, berry jam, malt biscuit and classic sherry oak depth.
Finish: Pleasantly long and balanced with ground spice, dried fruit and soft Scottish tablet – finally unveiling the merest wisp of peat smoke.

Lovely flavour

Beautiful flavour with a very slight peatiness and quite light compared to the Bunnahabhain 12 which is heavier with a lot stronger nose and sherry bomb flavour but is still highly enjoyable and recommended

Unfortunately I haven't got the my purchase yet due to the incompetence of the delivery driver he didn't ring the door bell, my neighbour tried to accept it but the driver wouldn't deliver it to him, instead he got a steam of verbal abuse and stormed off, I am expecting him to try to deliver it tomorrow, I think that some instructions to ring the door bell would be the answer. Finest whisky

My 60+ years of whisky drinking give me the right to say this is as good as it gets.

Wonderful delicate syrup aroma on nosing giving hints of what's to come. Lovely velvet mouthfeel on tasting then the release of deep sherry influenced rich Christmas cake flavours. Not at all harsh, really lovely and releasing more as small amounts of water added. I'm a confirmed Glendronach fan, and this sits well beside their sublime stable of sherried drams; wonderful value for money for such a great whisky.

Fresh Baked Aroma

Starting with aromas of iced cinnamon rolls, boiled fruit candies, and raisins, the single malt then transitions seamlessly into a biscuit-like palate accented by hints of strawberry jam. It's a sensory experience reminiscent of a bakery.

Aged exclusively in premium Oloroso sherry casks, this maturation process imparts a rich, deep flavour profile with notes of dried fruits, warm desert-like spices, and hints of dark chocolate.
