The Corriecravie Edition spirit is initially aged in Bourbon barrels and finished for six months in Oloroso Sherry hogsheads from Jerez, Spain. It uses Concerto malted barley and water from their own borehole. The unique yeast and fermentation period give it a full-bodied flavor. Compared to Kilmory, it has deeper flavors with sweeter spices and rich fruits. It's bottled at 55% ABV without chill filtering or added colour.

In 2008, Gordon selected 10 refill casks that had been laid down 40 years prior, in 1968. Within these casks, he found a beautifully light-colored spirit, possessing the ethereal and fragrant qualities found only in the oldest and finest whiskies. He transferred the contents of these 10 casks into first-fill sherry-seasoned casks, carefully chosen for the specific character he envisioned, and patiently nurtured the maturing whisky for an additional 14 years until it reached the desired flavor and character.

A collision of waxy dark chocolate, warm blackcurrants and muscovado sugar pulls you under its spell with a burst of plump cherries and earthy pine needles leaping from its depths. From salty seasoning comes a briny character with tangy crisp seaweed and smoky bacon swirling on the surface with hints of sweet vanilla, spicy cloves and blueberries. Surrender to its dangerous depths with the heady force of menthol, treacle and chilli sauce.Palate: Plunge into the whirlpool and torrents of taste well up on the palate; deep, peppery and chewy, bombarding the tongue. The first plunge brings forth chewy peppered steak soaked in pepper sauce with the tang of crispy seaweed. As you descend deeper, encounter a mouthful of black tarry espresso coffee that coats the palate with rich melted dark fruits (blackcurrants, blueberries and cherries) and bitter almonds. Dr. Bill's curiosity led him to explore the potential of new charred oak barrels in enhancing Glenmorangie's delicate, fruity spirit. He handpicked a selection of bespoke casks, meticulously crafted to enrich the distillery's single malt. By subjecting these virgin wood casks to charring for the first time, he aimed to create a distinct style of single malt characterized by intense color and spiciness.
The majority of these early casks were allocated to the wood-finishing process, where their spiciness harmonized with Glenmorangie's intricate fruity notes. However, displaying the vision of a true innovator, he filled a small number of these casks with new-make spirit, envisioning the creation of an extraordinary single malt.
These experimental new char casks were left to mature in a cool, earth-floored warehouse for over two decades. During this extended aging period, the spirit within underwent a delightful transformation, evolving into a lusciously buttery whisky imbued with flavors of vanilla, chocolate infused with hints of orange, nuances of ginger, and a touch of sweet chili.
Dr. Bill was exhilarated by the spicy depths achieved in this groundbreaking experiment. Contemplating how to complement the whisky's unique flavor profile, he embarked on a journey to harmonize Glenmorangie's delicacy with the robust, toasty qualities of the whisky. Initially, he layered the oaky nuances with the soft, fruity character of Glenmorangie matured in first-fill bourbon casks. Subsequently, he introduced sweet subtlety by incorporating a portion of whisky finished in oloroso sherry casks.
After a patient aging period of 23 years, the resulting creation radiates with ripe fruits, rich orange chocolate, and subtle undertones of sugared almonds and spice. Exceptionally dynamic and vibrant, Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1998 elevates the distillery's renowned elegance with a splendid and spicy brilliance.
Tasting Note by Glenmorangie:Nose: Rich and mellow, with hints of toffee, ripe fruits such as pears, plums and baked apples, and some gentle oak. This is followed by some sweet vanilla, fragrant spearmint and a mellow, warming, waxy note, like fragrant incense. Some water releases Glenmorangie’s classic citrus notes of lemon and mandarin orange along with sweet tobacco, a touch of lavender, and the merest hint of ginger.Palate: A zesty, almost effervescent mouthfeel leads into a burst of vibrant fruitiness, some chocolatey notes, a soft butter candy flavour and a hint of toffee, juicy raisins and figs. Then comes a suggestion of orange-flavoured chocolate, clove, ginger and aniseed.Finish: Gentle and soothing with hints of sugared almonds, leather and dates.
In 1997, the distillery embarked on a remarkable journey by laying down its spirit in the finest bourbon casks. This marked the beginning of one of Dr. Bill's rarest wood experiments. After almost a decade of careful aging, a portion of this spirit was meticulously transferred into Château Montrose red wine casks. Sourced exclusively from the celebrated Saint-Estèphe appellation of Bordeaux, these casks are so limited in supply that only a few could be obtained. The deep, rich color of the wine previously held in these casks is so profound that it is even reflected in the wood of the whisky's case.
Driven by curiosity, Dr. Bill sought to uncover the unique soft, red fruit notes that these casks could impart to the whisky. Venturing into uncharted territory with a finish never before attempted or replicated at the distillery, he aimed to create a Glenmorangie expression that would stand dramatically apart from the rest.
Thirteen years later, this single malt whisky had evolved into a masterpiece, teeming with extraordinary depths of berry flavors. Encouraged by this remarkable transformation, Dr. Bill embarked on the complex task of marrying various casks to enhance the whisky's unique taste. He skillfully combined whisky aged solely in bourbon casks to highlight Glenmorangie's signature citrus notes. Whisky finished for extended periods in oloroso sherry casks contributed layers of sweetness and spicy finesse, while a carefully selected array of secret casks added their distinct influence.
After maturing for a total of 23 years, Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1997 now overflows with the luscious flavors of red fruits and candied sweetness, a true testament to the artistry and dedication that define its creation.
Tasting Note by Glenmorangie:Nose: Astonishing, perfumed and fruity complexity. Floral notes of rose, jasmine and carnation intermingle with soft red fruits, mint toffee, pastry or cake mix and a sweet confectionery top note. With water, even more soft, floral top notes like roses and carnations emerge, with a very subtle spiciness like sweet chilli, clove and ginger.Palate: A slightly tingly, gently spicy mouthfeel is followed by a symphony of sweet candy flavours, more soft red fruits, pineapple chunks and a taste reminiscent of pears and mandarin segments in fruit jelly. There are sweet ginger and chilli notes, gentle almond marzipan and vanilla toffee apple.Finish: Sweet, rich, long and gently spicy.
