This latest unpeated single malt, distilled exclusively from barley grown on Islay, is a celebration of both place and provenance. Distilled from barley sourced from eight local farms within an 11-mile radius of the Bruichladdich Distillery, it embodies the essence of its origin. The Islay Barley 2014, with full traceability from farm to glass, has matured in a harmonious blend of first-fill bourbon casks, sherry butts, and second-fill wine casks. This careful cask selection ensures a perfect balance between the oak's influence and the character of the locally sourced barley.
Tasting Note by Bruichladdich:Nose: Delicate floral notes along with sweet malt and ripe grain open on the nose. Hints of pepper and soft spices follow before the dram reveals soft stoned fruits and creamy vanilla. Creamy vanilla, a hint of coconut, butterscotch, and brown sugar come from the oak, alongside delicate notes of nutmeg and hazelnut. Fruit notes continue to open, with fragrant peach, honeyed melon, pear drops and warm banana bread.Palate: Creamy vanilla and lemon are immediate on the palate, with a peppery nutmeg spice giving way to sweet malt, warm porridge and popcorn. The depth of flavour and creamy, viscous texture is typical of our Islay barley style, with the natural oils from the barley enhanced with layers of sweet citrus, tropical fruit and fragrant peach. The combination of American and French oak makes for a beautifully balanced expression, with a drop of water bringing out subtle marine notes.Finish: Sweet, stoned fruits settle on the palate with creamy vanilla custard and a touch of coconut, while a delicate floral note lingers.
Adam Hannett, the Head Distiller, has expertly selected casks that previously housed Oloroso and Amarone from Spain and Italy's esteemed wine regions for the Octomore 14.2. This unique combination lends a distinct sweetness and nuttiness, resulting in an exceptional single malt. The whisky is then aged in French oak, adding substantial depth and complexity. Octomore's iconic peak smoke harmonises well with the Oloroso sherry casks, infusing a robust, savoury flavour. Additionally, the Amarone casks contribute significantly, imparting rich red fruit notes, which provide structure and coherence to the 14.2 blend.

The 2023 release of Longrow 21 Year Old single malt is a finely crafted whisky from The Springbank Distillery. This edition is a blend of whiskies aged in 65% sherry casks and 35% bourbon casks. Longrow is distinguished by its peated character, achieved through a 48-hour peat drying process of the barley, and is made using the same traditional methods as Springbank. True to the distillery's commitment to authenticity, Longrow is produced entirely in-house, from distillation to bottling, without the addition of color or chill filtration.

This release is the second in a distinguished five-part sherry series from the distillery. Distilled in July 2013, it underwent a unique maturation process. Initially, it spent six years in refill bourbon barrels, followed by a further four years in freshly made Palo Cortado hogsheads crafted from American oak. In September 2023, this meticulously aged whisky was bottled, yielding a limited run of just 10,200 bottles.

Laphroaig Distillery has stood on the southern shore of Islay since 1815, producing what remains one of the most distinctive and recognisable single malts in the world. The Ian Hunter series pays homage to the last member of the Johnston family to own and manage the distillery, a man whose vision shaped Laphroaig's identity in ways that endure to this day.
